The BBC reports that residents of the island nation of Zanzibar are being terrorized by a sex-craved ghost who sodomizes men while they sleep in their bed.
The ghost, known as Popo Bawa, was blamed for previous acts of sexual victimization during the 1995 and 2000 general elections in Zanzibar, but the ghost is apparently now freelancing in non-election years.
According to the BBC, Popo Bawa reveals itself through an acrid smell and a puff of smoke, after which, “victims then speak of being in a trance or dreamlike state as they are molested.”
Some Zanzibaris are refusing to sleep in their own houses, as they believe the ghost can only strike people “in the comfort of their own beds.”
