Did Nostradamus Predict the World Trade Center Attack?

After the extremely close election in the United States last year, a fake quotation from Nostradamus floated around the Internet. Now, a similar quote is making the rounds that supposedly has Nostradamus predicting the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. Here’s one of the versions of this quote,

“In the City of God there will be a great thunder, two brothers torn apart by chaos, while the fortress endures, the great leader will succumb. The third big war will begin when the big city is burning. On the 11th day of the 9 month that…two metal birds would crash into two tall statues…in the new city… and the world will end soon after.” – Nostradamus 1654

The short version is this is a bogus quote. The attribution line in this version is amazing since Nostradamus would have been 151 years old if he had somehow managed to still be alive in 1654 (in fact he died c. 1566).

The really scary thing is that people still have such faith in quacks like Nostradamus. You have to wonder whether or not 100 years from now there will be another horrible terrorist attack and people will be circulating fake quotes from Jeanne Dixon that supposedly predicted the event.
